Cry Translate is built so that your baby's cries stay on your phone. This policy explains exactly what the app processes, every case in which data leaves your device, and the choices you have. It applies to the Cry Translate mobile app for iOS and Android, operated by Attention AI (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
1. What the app processes on your device
- Microphone audio. When you start an analysis, the app records about 7 seconds of audio into memory. The recording is analysed by a machine-learning model running on your phone and is then discarded. It is never written to your device's storage and never uploaded, unless you explicitly choose to share it (see section 2).
- Analysis results. The suggested cry meaning and the time of the analysis are stored locally on your device so you can review them. They are not sent anywhere.
- Usage counter. The free tier allows 3 analyses per day. The counter is stored locally on your device and resets at midnight (your local time).
- Settings. Your preferences (such as the sharing mode described below) are stored locally on your device.
The app has no sign-in and no user profile. We never collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or contacts. The referral feature uses an anonymous account — a random identifier with no personal details attached (section 2.4). The app includes Google AdMob for advertising (section 2.3) and Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports (section 2.5); it contains no other third-party analytics SDKs.
2. When data leaves your device
The cry audio recorded for an analysis never leaves your device. Everything that does leave is listed below — this list is complete, and nothing else is transmitted.
2.1 Optional, anonymous cry donation (opt-in)
You can choose to share a recording to help improve the AI — for example by tapping "Help improve Cry Translate" on a result, or by submitting a correction. Nothing is ever shared unless you take that action; recordings are never sent on their own. When you share, we receive:
- the 7-second audio recording,
- your baby's age range (e.g. 3–6 months) — never a birth date, and
- optionally, what you told us the cry meant (your correction label).
No name, no account, and no identifier that could link the recording to you or your device is stored with it.
Donated recordings are uploaded to our server in the European Union and retained in raw form for up to 90 days before being processed into the training corpus.
To keep the model fair, we only collect cries from babies without diagnosed conditions affecting the voice. The app asks about this before the first share and excludes recordings of premature or medically complex babies from donation.
You control sharing at all times in the app's settings: choose Ask each time, Share automatically (shares when you tap the share action or submit a correction, without a confirmation dialog each time), or Never share. Selecting "Never share" stops all future donations and deletes any recordings still waiting on your device to be sent.
2.2 Purchases
Payments for Cry Translate Plus are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment card or billing details. To validate purchases and unlock Plus across reinstalls, we use RevenueCat (a payments-infrastructure provider acting as our subprocessor). RevenueCat receives purchase receipts and an anonymous, device-scoped identifier — not your name, email, or any account information, because the app never collects any.
2.3 Advertising
If you have not bought Cry Translate Plus, the app shows a banner ad on its main screen, served by Google AdMob. Buying Plus removes ads. (Bonus days earned through referrals do not: they lift the daily analysis limit and nothing else.)
To request and show an ad, Google receives your device's advertising ID, IP address, general device and app information (such as model, operating-system version, and language), and data about the ads shown to you. Google does not receive any cry audio, any analysis result, or anything else from inside the app.
Where consent is required — in the European Economic Area and the UK — the app asks you before any personalised advertising happens, using Google's consent form. If you decline, ads still appear but are not personalised. On any device, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Google settings, which stops personalised advertising across all apps. You can also change or withdraw your consent at any time in the app's settings, under Ad privacy options — withdrawing is as easy as giving it.
2.4 Referral rewards
You can earn free unlimited-analysis days when someone installs Cry Translate from your invite link. That needs one shared record, because your friend's phone has no other way to tell yours what happened.
For this the app creates an anonymous account using Firebase Authentication: a random, opaque identifier generated for your installation. It carries no name, no email address, no phone number and no password, and it is not connected to your Google account or any other account. That identifier is your invite code.
When someone installs the app through your link, their phone writes a single record to our Firebase database noting that an install arrived from your invite code, and when. Your phone counts those records to work out how many bonus days you have earned. Nothing about how either phone uses the app is stored with it. The app never reads your contacts and never sends invites for you — you share your link yourself.
You can delete your anonymous identifier and its referral records at any time: see Data deletion.
2.5 Crash reports
The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to report crashes and serious errors so we can fix them. A report describes the technical state of the app at the moment it failed: the error and stack trace, the device model, the operating-system version, the app version, and a random installation identifier. It contains no cry audio and no analysis results. Crash reporting has been part of the app since build 7.
2.6 Version check
Each time the app starts, it reads a small configuration file from our Firebase database to find out the minimum supported app version. This is how we can tell you to update when an old build stops working properly, and how we can switch off a release that turns out to be broken.
The request is not signed in and carries no identifier. Google receives the request itself and your device's IP address — no account, no advertising ID, nothing from inside the app. It happens before, and independently of, the anonymous referral account described in section 2.4, so it is not connected to it, and we store nothing as a result of it.
If the check cannot be reached — you are offline, or the service is unavailable — the app carries on working normally. It is deliberately built to fail that way: the analysis runs on your device, and a network problem must never stop you using the app.
3. Data retention
- Cry audio (analysis): held in memory for the duration of the analysis only; never stored.
- Analysis history, counters, settings: stored on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
- Donated recordings (queued): stored on your device for up to two weeks until sent, then deleted from the device. Deleted immediately if you choose "Never share".
- Donated recordings (server): retained in raw form for up to 90 days, then processed into the anonymous training corpus.
- Purchase records: retained by Apple/Google and RevenueCat per their own policies, for as long as needed to honour your purchase.
- Referral records: your anonymous identifier and the install records attached to it are kept while the referral programme runs, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Crash reports: retained by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
- Advertising data: held by Google under its own advertising policies. We never receive or store it.
4. Children's data
Cry Translate is made for parents and caregivers. It is not directed at children, it has no child-facing features or interactions, and it is not part of Google Play's Designed for Families programme. It is used by adults, about their infants.
The app processes the sound of a baby's cry on the parent's device; that audio stays on the device unless the parent or caregiver explicitly donates it, and donated audio is anonymous and unlinkable as described above — it carries no name, no account, and no identifier connecting it to any child, adult, or device.
Because the app is not child-directed, its ad requests are not tagged for child-directed treatment. Ad content is capped at the "G" (general audiences) rating, and no ad is personalised unless you have given consent where consent is required. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18, and we do not build advertising profiles of children.
5. Legal bases (GDPR)
Where the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation applies:
- Consent is the legal basis for cry donation. You give it by explicitly sharing a recording, and you can withdraw it for all future sharing at any time via "Never share" (withdrawal cannot reach recordings already sent, because they are anonymous and unlinkable).
- Performance of a contract is the legal basis for processing purchase receipts to deliver the Plus features you bought.
- Consent is the legal basis for personalised advertising. We ask for it through Google's consent form before any personalised ad is shown; decline and ads run without personalisation.
- Legitimate interests is the legal basis for the anonymous referral record (running the invite programme and keeping it from being abused), for showing non-personalised ads to fund the free tier, and for crash reports (keeping the app working). In each case the data is minimal and carries no personal details.
On-device processing of microphone audio is under your direct control via the operating system's microphone permission and does not involve any transmission to us.
6. International transfers
Donated recordings are uploaded to a server located in the European Union. Referral records are stored in Google Firestore in India (Mumbai), which is also the database the version check in section 2.6 reads from. Purchase validation via RevenueCat, advertising via Google AdMob, anonymous authentication via Firebase, crash reporting via Firebase Crashlytics, and Google's handling of the Firestore requests described above may involve processing in the United States and in other countries where those providers operate, under appropriate safeguards.
7. Your choices
- Set the sharing mode to Ask each time / Share automatically / Never share in the app's settings.
- Choose "Never share" to stop all future donations and delete queued, unsent recordings from your device.
- Revoke the microphone permission at any time in your device settings (analysis will no longer work).
- Delete all local data by deleting the app's data or uninstalling it.
- Request deletion of your anonymous identifier and referral records — see Data deletion.
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Google settings to stop personalised advertising across all apps.
- Buy Cry Translate Plus to remove ads.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
8. Changes to this policy
This policy was last updated on 25 August 2026, to cover advertising, referral rewards, and crash reporting. If we change it again, we will post the updated version at this address with a new effective date. Material changes to what the app shares will also be reflected in the app's own consent screens before they apply to you.
